12th November 2019

Lead institution:
The University of Sussex

Funding
The research was supported by grants from the Social Care Institute for Excellence, the Higher Education Academy, the General Social Care Council and the Care Council for Wales. All studies on law in social work education were carried out in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire.

Summary
Research at Sussex has significantly influenced the national curricula content of, and entry standards for, social work education in England and Wales. This work has established new guidelines for setting admissions standards for all English social work courses, resulting in the selection and training of better-quality candidates. It has also improved the teaching and learning of communication skills with children and of law in social work programmes and resulted in the development of prize-winning educational resources.

Should we spend more time talking about methods?

This blog by the Methods for Change team, illustrated by Jack Brougham, asks if we should spend more time talking about the methods we use as researchers. Drawing on a recent paper, we suggest that researchers need to articulate why methods matter in creating change to global challenges. We share three creative techniques that we have experimented with across the Methods for Change project that can encourage playful, reflective conversation about methods and their role in galvanising change.

Collaborative Zine Making Method
