  • Problem

Highly talented individuals are especially capable of advancing the knowledge frontier but from poorer countries often fail to realize their potential. A significant bottleneck is that many individuals are excluded from leading educational opportunities because of insufficient financial resources.

    Solution

Global Talent Fund is a nonprofit organisation working to discover, nurture, and empower talented youth worldwide. Its flagship scholarship programme offers up to 50 fully-paid scholarships each year to enable students to complete undergraduate degrees in maths and science at top tier universities such as Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial. In addition, Global Talent Fund offers charitable grants of up to $50,000 to organisations that identify and nurture high-potential students in maths and science. Through research and policy advocacy, Global Talent Fun also seeks to recognize exceptionally talented youth and creating the opportunities they deserve to flourish.

    Sustainable Development Goals addressed

    Some facts:

IMO medalists from low-income countries publish 34% fewer papers and get 56% fewer citations than peers from wealthy countries.

Sexual misconduct by staff is under-reported and under-researched. Higher education institutions in the UK need to be leading the change to prevent cultures of abuse, respond effectively and without inflicting further harm, ensure robust, student-centred reporting and investigation procedures, and implement policies and procedures to eliminate the sexual misconduct of academic, professional services, contracted and temporary staff.
