The aim of this workshop is to get some ideas down and pen to paper regarding what the Aspect commercialisation toolkit will look like and what we have learnt so far from each of the workshops; bringing these leanings together and then seeing where to go next. 

The Workshop will be facilitated by Bruce Etherington and Sophie Jones from Cardiff University. Please RSVP to Sophie JonesS178 @cardiff.ac.uk

9. 15 am: Teas and coffee

9.30 am- 9.40 am: Introductions and overview of the day

9.40 – 10 am: ICE BREAKER ACTIVITY

10am – 10.30 am: Who is the commercial market for Social Science research (including arts/humanities)

Potential ideas to discuss;

  • Clients and services
  • Income and funding and linkage grants of commercial activities
  • Commercial arrangements; advocacy organisations and commercialisation units of universities

10.30 -11.00 am: Incentives to Commercialise

Potential ideas to discuss;

  • Relevance and collaboration
  • Financial rewards, promotion and careers
  • Skills development and changing attitudes

11. 00 am- 11.15 am: BREAK

11.15 am – 11.45 am: How to overcome impediments to commercialisation

Potential ideas to discuss;

  • University promotions, identity and culture
  • Managing activities—resources and time
  • Intellectual Property
  • Lack of skills/knowledge and university structure

11.45 am- 12.30 pm: Recommendations to support commercialisation activities

Potential ideas to discuss;

  • Understanding, promoting and publicising the value of AHSS research
  • Standard practices across the tertiary sector, ‘How to guides’, top tips etc…
  • Building business skills and improving industry awareness

12.30 pm – 1.30 pm  LUNCH

1.30 pm –  3.30 pm: Bringing it all together and next steps

  • What’s missing? Next workshop dates
  • Final toolkit: how will it look? Publishing date? How will it be accessed?
